There are numerous applicable analogies, but its my understanding that its America's status as the best turd in the toilet bowl that keeps the USD a float. I understand that many other countries are deep in debt as well. My question I guess is, Is the rest of the world counting on the USA Ponzi scheme continuing so they can continue their own ponzi schemes or is the rest of the world just waiting for the USA Ponzi to blow up so they can finally move past the pressure of the high valued USD? I know the world has to be miffed and perturbed by the USA being able to spend whatever we want and the entire country living beyond our means or at least way beyond the means of the rest of the world. Is it possible that when the ponzi does blow up that the world will move away from the USD permanently ushering in a Venezuela type era to the USA?

Sure it's possible, but will anyone be willing to make their currency the global benchmark?? I think not. The US has such influence I doubt they'll become the next Venezuela. The fact is, the US can pack up all their bats and balls and stop playing with everyone else and be fine and/or better off.

The two big power players, the USA, and China have way too much influence over the world economies. Everyone else can only toe the line....and it's a sad state of affairs!

Its my understanding that the USD will be replaced as the benchmark currency by IMF SDR Units. https://www.imf.org/external/np/fin/data/rms_sdrv.aspx
https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/can-imf-currency-replace-dollar
What say ye??

And I do not believe America will be fine without the rest of the world. We manufacture very little except intellectual property and financial messes. Americans got spoiled with all the cheap and easy credit the world afforded us and we do not take kindly to having what we believe to be "Ours" taken back, reduced, or even slow downs in accumulations of wealth. American expectations are set unreasonably high given our economic situation, as evidenced by the stock market completely detached from reality and valuations. The government sold us a dream of every hard worker can have a nice house, 2 cars, 2 vacations, and a happy family and now we are finding out no matter how hard or much we work alot of Americans cant and never will be able to afford any of that.

For many Americans the dream has become just to have a safe place to live and food to eat.. what the government did because of this virus just decimated our lowest income citizens.. they ordered everything shut except the C Corps so basically if you dont work for a corporation you are jobless or about to be.. I had a private business, a motorcycle shop, that struggled for 5 years before I finally gave up last year and I was ALWAYS busy which made it very hard to quit even though I pretty much never made money.. it always seemed like the money was just around the corner if we could just hang on we'd make to the sweet spot but fair pricing and quality service just barely paid the bills when it was all said and done. I guess I didnt care enough about being in business to screw my customers who I was trying to serve..

It's a sad state of affairs and terrible to hear. I'm sort of surprised some states aren't pulling out of the Union.

I said wealth accumulation, but most Americans are more concerned with Crap accumulation.. so Americans dont take kindly to anyone interfering with or impeding their accumulation of crap.

I am aware the author of the Cato article said he "Didnt think it was probable". When I read where an American Tinker Tank says something is "Not Probable" I assume the deal has already been signed and they are just deflecting attention until they feel like unveiling the plan.

Also why would any country not want to be the reserve currency? It seems to have afforded America unlimited cheap and easy credit..

Lastly, even though it may just be numbers on a screen somewhere, we Americans are aware (for the most part) that we just robbed and royally butt pumped by the government. $6 Trillion divided by 330 Million Americans equals $18,181 cost per man woman and child and the govt gave every adult $1200 ($500 per child) of our own dollars back. So every single American just had roughly $17,000 stolen from them by the government, who then turned around and gave that money to the most mismanaged corporations who the govt is supposed to be regulating.. Surprisingly, it seems the only people that care enough to do anything are the roughly 1/3 of the population who lost their jobs to the virus. I guess the other 2/3 are too busy still working, for now.. Ironically, I believe its the same jobless 1/3 that is rioting in the streets that will carry the Don to reelection.. Talk about stupid.. but in a way I cant blame them when they look across the isle and see the same guy standing there.. a rich, out of touch, perverted racist VS a rich, out of touch, perverted racist..

Man I wish but I am afraid they are all incahoots at this point. Texas is our hope as they "technically" won their independent nation from the Mexicans and then choose to join the Union, but I dont know if there are enough Americans left in Texas to make a stand and Texas just got knee capped pretty hard with the collapse of oil. I am hoping we still have a general with enough balls to refuse treasonous orders (Unconstitutional to deploy US troops on USA soil) but it appears most politicians wipe their arse with a copy of the constitution and Obama completely and quietly overhauled the military during his time replacing many, a large unknown amount of generals and military higher ups with yes men.
