U.S.A. Election Creating More Currency Moves Then Initially Expected

Most political elections don’t create a lot of movement in the currencies as most political party’s policies are aligned these days. But the U.S. election is proving otherwise and it’s because of Donald Trump’s broadly different views and opinions and as the polls swing from Clinton to Trump the USD is whippy all over the place.

Trumps views on Mexico are well known as is his opinion on immigration in general. It’s a full lock down of the USA borders and greater control of importing and exporting and that has a greater impact on the USD in general and that’s why the USD is moving about.

How to Trade these markets?

First thing is you’ve got to understand the two sides to the story. What is Clinton about and what does a Trump government change? If Clinton wins the USD rallies and if Trump wins then the USD falls. But that’s only half of it.

You need to focus on the technical levels of the majors. This is where most of the volume goes through the currencies and they are the easiest to identify the bets trading opportunities.

Going through the major currency pairs below we can see exactly where the pressure points are and this will enable you to isolate the best trading opportunities. How Trump has just hit the headlines for taking the lead in the election polls. You can clearly see the USD has fallen on the back of this.

So, from here simply look for the polls to continue the same way or change that’s where the cash is. I personally think it’s a range trading scenario until the result is known so I think at this stage it’s best to look for buying opportunities of USD or a selling opportunities for EUR, GBP, AUD and NZD.

USDYEN is the real USD trade and as you can see it has followed the DXY straight down. Identifying this on your charts allows you to plot your next trading strategy.

The key is to focus on the major economic events and of course the US polls.

The US Federal Reserve meet today to decide interest rates so make sure if you have a position you have stops in place. I don’t think the FED will do anything ahead of the election but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Any mention of raising rates in December will see the USD rally and if they mention they will not be changing rates then the USD will fall.

So, line up your technical levels and look for the best set up!

That’ as easy as it gets.
